Cathy Condon lives on Brisbane North’s  Bribie Island – Fairweather country.   She draws on the abundance of flora, fauna and gentle rhythmic flow of this sand island’s tidal cycles as inspiration for her painting processes.

A portrait of the incredible Louisa Hope, a woman with an indomitable spirit. Louisa survived the Lindt Cafe siege of 2015 and went on to start the Louisa Hope Foundation for the Prince of Wales Hospital.

With a nod to ukiyo-e, Japanese Woodblock Prints, this series is affected by a lack of perspective and shadow, flat areas of strong colour, and compositional freedom.

Condon continues her expression of her love for Mt Coolum, Queensland, where her studio was based for 10 years through paint and printmaking processes.

2008 Burnished Solar Winds Series >

 

This series comprise works based on a poem written by Cathy’s father in 1974.  Over 100 works features the colours of the ocean meeting the sand.

2007 Freedom Series >

 

In this series, figures started to emerge  mysteriously from the layers of oil and enamel. This laid the foundation for many future works with a connection to a connected spiritual energy.

2006 Collection >

 

La Loba  was inspired by Clarissa Pinkola Estees's "Women who Run with the Wolves".  Based  loosely on myths and stories of the wild woman archetype, this work has a powerful energy. 

2005 Glitnir Series >

 

The Glitnir series explores the gilt and splendour of the hall of Forseti, the Norse god of justice and law. The pillars of gold and red are recreated within the abstract works.

2005 Alfheim Series >

 

The Alfheim series embodies one of the nine worlds and is home to the Light Elves in Norse mythology. Keeping the palate simple with orange and blue, Cathy worked to recreate the realm of the Light Elves.

These paintings imbue a dream like quality that is charged with emotion. Condon’s painting processes are intuitive and draw on themes of mythology, personal relationships and life experiences.

 These works are based on dreams and were painted during her Art Therapy studies 2004 - 07. 

2001 Organic Sculpture >

 

These sculptural works juxtapose industrial materials with organic forms of nature. Compressed hot water systems are used as plinth like bases, copper pipes extend to support top heavy glass bricks  painted with local landscapes echoing plant like forms. 

2000 Cafe Scene >

 

This work portrays the cafe scene around Noosa when Condon lived and worked in a studio/art gallery on Noosa River from 1998 - 2000. Condon's use of oxides with clay slip reveal a clever yet subtle play of light and shade, depth and texture.
