Cathy Condon lives on Brisbane North’s Bribie Island – Fairweather country.   Condon draws on the abundance of flora, fauna and gentle rhythmic flow of this sand island’s tidal cycles as inspiration for her painting processes.  As well as travelling and exhibiting overseas, Condon exhibits annually in Australia.

Condon’s paintings are genuine and real. Her efforts are restrained and purposeful. They refer to the natural world experienced through the energy and flow of her patterns that are formalized through scale, colour and texture. The artist allows the eye to slow down and to see the forces of life that make painting a testament to the forces of vitality. The result is an immersion in the dynamism of form, structure and gesture whose primary claim to authenticity is the effortless, seemingly casual sense of inevitability that greets the viewer in each of her artlessly imperfect, yet sublime work.

The outer edges of her work are cadenced with exactitude and nuance allowing the spectator to enter the picture plane through multiple viewpoints. Condon’s work reminds us that the poetry in good abstract painting is in its infinite potential to revitalize its dialogue with the viewer, to resist immediate comprehension through formal inventiveness.

Condon’s work has recently focused on the constancy of the creative process in an artist’s life. Her work is bold, full of colour and reflective of her everyday life experiences, symbolized through landscape and nature. Condon draws on the abundance of flora, fauna and gentle rhythmic flow of the local sand island Bribie Island’s tidal cycles as inspiration for her recent painting processes.  With a nod to ukiyo-e, Japanese Woodblock Prints, the works are affected by a lack of perspective and shadow, flat areas of strong colour, and compositional freedom.
